Working with nature, memory, and time through texture
My name is Viktoria. I create under the name Branchstone. My work sits between painting and nature. I create textured, abstract pieces using bark, branches, stones, and other natural materials. These elements are part of the process itself — they shape the work as much as my hands do. I grew up on the Donbas lands, surrounded by wide steppes, the smell of wild tarragon, and red rock terricones rising from the ground. That landscape taught me to notice texture, contrast, and silence early on. Those impressions stayed with me long before art became a conscious practice. Later, I lived in Texas, where I encountered a completely different set of textures — sun-bleached wood, dry grasses, cracked soil. I was constantly collecting, observing, learning how each place speaks through material. Now, living in Northern California, I continue this dialogue with redwoods, coastal bark, and mosses, allowing each environment to quietly inform the work. My process is slow and intuitive. I work through layering, patience, and attention, letting each piece develop in its own rhythm. No two works are the same. Each carries its own balance of fragility, weight, and history. I believe art can grow alongside nature with care and respect. Every material I use has already lived a full life. Through my work, I extend that life into a new form — one that invites stillness, reflection, and grounding into everyday spaces. Branchstone is about staying rooted while evolving. About resilience that doesn't harden. About making room for quiet stories to surface.

The Creative Process
From forest floor to finished artwork
Gathering
I walk through forests and along coastlines, collecting fallen branches, weathered bark, and vibrant moss. Every piece is gathered with respect, taking only what nature has already released.
Composing
Back in my studio, I spend time with each material, studying its shape, texture, and character. I sketch compositions, experimenting with arrangements that honor each element's natural beauty.
Creating
The assembly process is meditative. I layer wood, moss, and bark, building depth and texture. Each piece finds its place organically, creating a harmonious whole that tells a story.
Finishing
The final step involves careful preservation treatments that maintain the natural beauty while ensuring longevity. Each piece is sealed, mounted, and prepared to become part of your space.
Art Philosophy
I believe art should emerge from nature, not at its expense. Every piece I create celebrates the inherent beauty of organic materials and honors the life they've already lived. My work is a meditation on impermanence, transformation, and the enduring connection between humanity and the natural world.
Sustainability
I use only materials that nature has released—fallen branches, shed bark, and naturally occurring moss. Nothing is taken that would harm living plants or ecosystems.
Authenticity
Every piece is one-of-a-kind, shaped by the unique character of its materials. I don't try to control nature—I collaborate with it, allowing each element to express its true form.
Connection
My art bridges the gap between indoor spaces and the natural world. Each piece brings the forest's serenity and power into your home, creating a daily connection to nature.
